No, OET is not accepted by IRCC as an English language test for Canadian immigration. For economic immigration programs such as Express Entry, IRCC accepts IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General and PTE Core.

How OET Is Scored: Grades and the 0–500 Scale

OET scores each of the four sub-tests, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, separately on a scale of 0 to 500. Scores are reported in 10-point increments and converted into letter grades from A to E. There is no overall OET score, so the grade required in each sub-test depends on your healthcare regulator.

The NMC in the UK accepts Grade C+ in Writing while requiring Grade B in the other three sub-tests. Speaking is assessed using linguistic criteria, including grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as clinical communication criteria that measure how effectively you communicate with the patient during the role-play.
 

 

OET Validity and Recent Test Changes

OET results are generally valid for two years from the test date, although the period accepted can depend on the healthcare regulator or registration pathway. OET on Computer and OET@Home results can be available within 48 hours of completing all four sub-tests, while OET on Paper results can be available 12 days after the test date, depending on the region.

There is no specific educational qualification required to take the OET. The test is available to candidates from recognised healthcare professions, and you must be at least 16 years old. A valid passport or accepted identification document is required for registration and on test day. You can take OET again if needed, subject to the available test dates and fees.
