Certain categories of individuals – such as those in UK on a visit visa, short-term student visa etc. – cannot apply for a switch to the Skilled Worker visa.  

How do I know if my job qualifies for the Skilled Worker visa?
To assess if your job is eligible for the UK Skilled Worker visa, you must check if it is mentioned in the eligible list of occupations and sponsored by a licensed employer. The job must fulfill the required skill level (RQF 3 or above) and meet the minimum salary requirements.
What is meant by a shortage of occupation?
The term 'shortage occupation' refers to sectors facing a shortage of skilled professionals. Job roles cannot be filled by residents of the UK, and hence, there is a need to fill positions with foreign skilled workers. The ISL, or Immigration Salary List, specifies the sectors that lack skilled workers. Employers can easily sponsor foreign workers for visas for job roles mentioned in the ISL. The Shortage Occupation List (SOL0) was replaced by the ISL.
What if my job is on the Shortage Occupation List for the UK?

If an individual has a job on the Shortage Occupation List [SOL], they can be paid 80% of the usual going rate for their job in order to be eligible for the UK Skilled Worker visa.  

Is IELTS mandatory for UK immigration?

No, IELTS is not mandatory for UK immigration. However, you must prove your proficiency in the English language through other standardized English language tests.
